A Winter’s Night On a Summer Day

Belinda Payne • Sep 03, 2020

You either love Winter or loathe Winter!

Winter, the season of the year between autumn and spring, is characterized by coldness, dreariness, bareness or death, and people often yearn for the warm Spring and Summer days to return. Autumn, the season between summer and Winter, is characterized by a period of beauty and maturity, yet on the verge of decline. Spring, the season between Winter and summer, is characterized by a period of new growth and renewal.

Winter means a lot of things to different people.

The best time of the year?

Growing up in the mid-west, we were accustomed to snow days and closed schools. We loved snowball fights and making angels in the fresh fallen white snow. But there were days we wished it would all go away. We were continually shoveling the snow and putting down salt to melt the ice. Sure, the hot chocolate and marshmallows are yummy! But no matter how young or old you may be, once you experienced a hard fall on the ice a few times, you are ready for the Spring season.

Is heavy winter gear wearing you down?

Sometimes life feels like you are wearing heavy winter gear.

Summer, typically characterized by long sunny warm days, kids playing, people traveling, beach time, weddings, cookouts, outdoor concerts, and much more. But the events of 2020 have played havoc with people’s plans. It seems nothing is going as expected. Each day people rise with anticipation to hear and to see the unexpected, which is quickly becoming the norm. Many are calling 2020 the new normal. When speaking with strangers, family, or friends, you begin to detect when someone is wearing heavy gear in the spirit. Like labored breathing when trying to walk through the heavy snow, people are laboring with signs of our times. People are wearing the cloaks of social injustices, government infighting, sudden deaths, and financial strain, and Covid-19.

This season shall pass

Our joys will come in the morning.

Does God know how you feel? Absolutely! Does God see and hear what is going on in the earth? Yes! Howbeit God operates from spiritual principles; we do not know or understand to usher His Divine will into the earth. As complicated as this may sound, some events must come to pass as part of God’s plan of redemption for man. These trials that we face are a test of our faith. God wants to know who is strong and pure to the kingdom. We are being tested to purify our faith and to bring us forth as precious gold. And yes, this lets us know there is great joy ahead for us. Now is not the time to give up on God, nor to lose your faith. Trust and do not doubt, our God is mighty and powerful! Soon, the Lord will arise, and His enemies shall be scattered.

1 Peter 1:6 (NLT)

So be truly glad.[ b ] There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

Feelings of guilt can work for us or against us. This sense of remorse or self-condemnation that guilt can bring may plague our mind to the point where it seems catastrophic, causing us to lose sleep and our peace. However, guilt can also affect us, acting as a catalyst, compelling us to clear our conscience […]

When you enter a room, and everyone knows you, it’s a great feeling and maybe even a distinguished honor. You do not need to show your ID with your name and picture to make you official. More and more people are finding themselves trying to live off of rations. Have you ever had to make do with the remnants of what others have left behind? Just because you don’t like the truth does not make it not a truth. There are what some call “hard sayings” of the Bible. These hard sayings are not defined so because it was difficult for the individual to speak the words. It is a hard saying because those who hear it have difficulty receiving […]
