God is a refiner
Well, now I have stepped over the line of no return. Here I go talking about removing impurities and unwanted elements by extreme measures at the hand of a refiner. Refiners use intense heat to bring a substance to a fine or more pure state or form. God does this to us, so that we become more precise and distinct in our image, molding us to conform to His image or likeness in every way. We have a certain polished glow about ourselves that separates us from others, and we stand out in the crowd as His peculiar people.
What is God looking accomplish through this process?
God has ever intention of helping you see what He sees in you. Yes, I know that can be quite frightening! Most of us do not want to know what God sees when He looks at us.
Malachi 3:2-3
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
What should you expect?
Well, let me just say you should anticipate – lots of heat! God turns up the heat and into the pot you go. Ouch! There you will remain until He burns off the residue anger, shame, low self-esteem, bitterness, resentment, rebellion, hurt, and anything else left as a result of bad relationships and experiences that continue to haunt and trouble your mind.
So how should you process this experience?
Humanity will always evaluate experiences based on our five senses. However, the critical knowledge is you must shift from depending upon your five senses as the primary tool of discernment to disciplining yourself to look for the spiritual meaning in all our experiences. You learn to look to the Holy Spirit for guidance. The Spirit of God teaches us it is a good thing to be in the hand of the Refiner, God, and our mind tells us there are no better options, and without Him, we die.
Who shall survive the Refiner’s fire?
Those that choose a life of discipline, obedience, and faithfulness to God’s biblical principles and precepts shall not only survive the Refiner’s fire and the fullers’ soap, but they shall come out of the fire as pure gold. This statement is not a cliché’ it is about life and death. God’s biblical principles give life, bring hope, and restores joy. If you are going to go through the fire, at least let it be at the hand of God, and not the cruelty of man.
You have a choice.
We must present our bodies to God as a living sacrifice so that we become holy and acceptable unto God. Know that the only way we can become acceptable through the Refiner’s purification fire.
Job 42:8 (NLT)
So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.”
