Where is your most sacred place of prayer? I know this sounds unreal, but over 25 years ago, I learned to pray my best prayers in my clothes closet. My sacred place of prayer or quiet time became my clothes closet. Yes, shoes, boots, clothes, purses, and the like surrounding me. But oh, what a great time I would have with God in my closet. In recent months I have found myself going back to my close closet when I want to have intimate talks with the Lord.
I don’t know what made me start using my clothes closet, but once I started, I was hooked! Maybe it was because, as a young mother, there was no other private space available that the kids did not invade LOL . But it became a sacred place for me. I took my Bible, pen, journal, and sometimes tape recorder with worship music with me. The Lord began to share with me. My life prayer life bloomed. My ear to hear His voice grew keen, and my mind became peaceful. I rejoiced, cried, pleaded my cause, repented, confessed, and more in my prayer closet.
I learned over the years that restlessness and my search for intangible and tangible things were a result of spiritual longing and barrenness in my soul. Have you ever longed to experience an intimate relationship with God and gain a greater revelation of God and His love for you? That was where I was. The more private time I made to be with Him, that longing diminished. I began to see and know God in ways I never knew possible.
As we close out, let me ask you the same question I asked at the beginning. Where is your most sacred place of prayer? If you do not have a place, I challenge you to find that place. Establish a daily routine of meeting with God in that sacred spot, even if it’s just 5 minutes. Once you start, you will find yourself guarding that time, and before you know it, you will be there 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Don’t worry about falling asleep in there. You will be in His presence. The more you go…the more you will go, and you will stay alert because you want to hear from Him. You won’t want to waste a single moment.
Keep me posted on how you are coming along with establishing your time and sacred place of prayer. God will remarkably bless you as you meet with Him.
